How Macao Welcomes International Chefs for Gastronomy Showcase

From June 14 to 23, the “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” will be held at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. One of the main attractions, the “City of Gastronomy Showcase,” will feature chefs from 26 Creative Cities of Gastronomy across Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, South and North America. These chefs will conduct 60 culinary sessions, highlighting Macao’s role as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and promoting the synergy between tourism and gastronomy. The six Chinese Creative Cities of Gastronomy will lead the showcase on the first two days, offering residents and visitors a chance to savor diverse culinary delights.

Free Sampling from 12 Asian Cities of Gastronomy

The “City of Gastronomy Showcase” will offer six to seven sessions daily from 3:30 p.m. to around 10 p.m. at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf. Participating cities include Chengdu, Shunde, Macao, Yangzhou, Huai’an, Chaozhou (China), Iloilo City (Philippines), Kermanshah (Iran), Kuching (Malaysia), Phuket (Thailand), Tsuruoka (Japan), and Zahlé (Lebanon). These cities will present 32 sessions featuring Asian flavors on the Main Stage along Legend Boulevard, with chefs sharing their culinary expertise and offering free sampling sessions. Visitors can immerse themselves in the unique gastronomic cultures of these cities.

Chinese Cities of Gastronomy Showcase Signature Dishes

The five Chinese Cities of Gastronomy will present signature dishes as follows:

  • Chengdu: Gold Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Special Flavored Beef Cubes
  • Shunde: Taro Puff Swan, Teriyaki Eel with Seasonal Veggies
  • Yangzhou: Cuizhu Fish Fry, Yangzhou Fried Rice
  • Huai’an: Sweet and Sour Squirrel Shaped Sea Bass, Abalone with Pingqiao Tofu
  • Chaozhou: Traditional Stuffed Pork Intestine with Eel and Pork Belly, Spring in Harmony

Macao will feature dishes prepared by chefs from the Macau Cuisine Association, Macanese Gastronomic Brotherhood, and six integrated resort enterprises, including Duo of Prawn with Macanese Twist, Grouper in Golden Sour and Spicy Sauce, Portuguese Chicken, and more.

International Gastronomy Promenade and Entertainment

The “International Gastronomy Promenade” will feature 100 food stalls offering a wide selection of Asian delicacies, with 700 catering seats, a game zone, and a seaside bar zone, along with lively performances.

Celebrating Macao as a Creative City of Gastronomy

This festival not only showcases Macao’s charm as an international City of Gastronomy but also provides a platform for interaction and exchange among residents and visitors. It promotes the integration of gastronomy with wellness, tourism, and other fields, supporting Macao’s “1 + 4” development strategy for economic diversification. The event highlights Macao’s dynamism and strengths as a platform and a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
