Dumpling and Bao serves authentic Asian cuisine
Dumpling and Bao recently opened on Oct. 9 and has received nonstop business ever since. After just a month since its grand opening on 6212 Siegen Lane, the restaurant has attained a lot of buzz. After trying the food, I see why it’s such a hit.
As soon as I entered the restaurant, I noticed so many cool features. I love how this restaurant pays homage to Chinese culture. The building’s interior is entirely red, which is a very prominent color in Chinese culture due to its symbolism of good luck and happiness.
The wall decor includes decorative 3D art of Bao and bamboo steaming baskets, as well as traditional Chinese artwork. The restaurant also has hanging scrolls covering the ceiling with Chinese calligraphy. For people who are just trying dumplings for the first time, there is a poster on the wall that includes an explanation of how to correctly eat them.
Though the decor was beautiful, the main reason I was interested in checking out this restaurant was that they serve authentic Asian dishes. Although the restaurant was busy, there wasn’t a big wait time to be seated. Once I walked in, the waitress led me straight to a booth and handed me a menu.
The menu was very straightforward. There were different types of Bao and dumplings that you could choose from, as well as noodle and rice dishes. There was also a small selection of desserts on the menu.
I was stuck between ordering the Xiao Long Bao or the noodle and dumpling soup. After a minute of thinking, I ordered the chicken Xiao Long Bao. Xiao Long Bao are Chinese soup dumplings filled with a juicy broth on the inside. The dumplings are served in a traditional Chinese bamboo steaming basket.
The chicken dumplings were so delicious. They came hot to the touch, so I waited a bit for them to cool off so I wouldn’t burn myself while trying them out. I thought they had a really nice flavor, and I loved the broth inside of them.
This was my first time trying out authentic Xiao Long Bao, but I’m a big fan of dumplings, so this was right up my alley. I feel like it was the perfect dish to enjoy as the cool weather approaches. I would rate the food I ordered from Dumpling and Bao an 8/10.
Not only did I enjoy the taste of the food, but also I thought the presentation of the dish was fantastic. I really loved the Xiao Long Bao being served in the bamboo baskets, and I felt like it added a little extra flair.
I feel that most restaurants either have really good food or really nice aesthetics, so I loved that Dumpling and Bao was able to incorporate and prioritize both. I would totally go back to check out more of their menu items in the future.
If you are interested in trying some authentic Asian cuisine, Dumpling and Bao should be your next spot to grab a bite to eat.
